Winter Blues and Ocean Views

The past week has been filled with snowy weather forecasts, a few trips to the movie theater, even more movies rented at home and plenty of time to think about sunny days in California. So, with the bear flag state in mind, I thought it was time to recap some of our favorite places to visit.

Santa Barbara (a.k.a. the California Riviera)

Backyard Bowls. Thanks to them, I'm OBSESSED with quinoa. During our last trip, we ate breakfast there 3 days in a row. You can't beat the fresh ingredients and friendly people. I go for the Breakfast Bowls every time, Brett enjoys the Acai bowls

Walking/biking to Goleta Beach, a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather! Lots of trails to choose from, check out Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition. Since Brett's family lives in SB we turn our adventure into a family affair.

Recently, Brett's parents took us to local restaurant off State Street, Tee-Off.  Completely unassuming, the steaks are wonderful, the cocktails are strong and the lights are dimmed.  If you watch Mad Men, you'll love this place!

Favorite activities/restaurants in Newport Beach:

Brett would kill me if I didn't mention Bear Flag Fish Co at the top of this list.  He honestly references their Ahi burrito once a week, go there, you'll understand.  The ingredients are fresh and the atmosphere reflects their location to the beach.  It's a great Newport Beach staple.  As I mentioned, Brett loves the Ahi Burrito, I prefer the panko crusted fish tacos.  Don't forget to try their house sauce!

Riding bikes along the boardwalk, here's a rental company with great Yelp reviews, http://www.newportcruisers.com/. Watch your driving, it's easy to be distracted by beautiful people and incredible beach homes

Beach Pit BBQ, we ate here so many times while living in California, as Brett's house was the next street over. The blueberry cornbread is delish!

Kean Coffee, my favorite place to get a Honey Vanilla Latte or a Dirty Chai.  It seems to always be packed, just an FYI
